The National Social Security Fund in conjunction with partners such as Absa bank, AI studio, and Fenon Records have urged Makerere University Business School students to embrace artificial intelligence tools and understand how to harness these tools to create solutions that are relevant to the market and aligned to what they study.

During this career expo that was recently launched by NSSF to rotate around universities with motive to shape the talent and skills coming out of universities, engage and equip them with financial literacy.

During the panel discussion conducted by different artificial intelligence and digital experts such as John Ssenkezi, Digital Supervisor, NSSF, Rhoda Musiima the founder of Phos Creatives and Lameck Kavuma Chief Operations Officer of AI Studio Uganda , they all urged students to recognize how important technological advancements are pushing Uganda towards greater economy and will require human subject to refine output and make them fully useful.

“It’s important to recognize that your knowledge is not becoming irrelevant but it’s part of of broader ecosystem that will empower these AI tools, your role therefore is to understand how to harness these tools and create solutions that are relevant to the market and aligned to what you study in your class,” said John Ssenkezi the digital supervisor at NSSF.

“Many organizations are driven by purpose and purpose is inherently human and it’s difficult to ask a machine to define the purpose on which you build a business” said Gerald Paul Kasaato the Deputy Managing Director of NSSF.

“As employers we believe we have a responsibility to help shape the talent coming out of Universities and we are deliberate about engaging with students early, understanding what employers need and contributing to conversations that prepare you for the work place” Gerald Paul Kasaato added.

The Career expo was launched last week at Makerere University main campus and is scheduled to rotate around 14 Universities and campuses country wide informing student community about the technological change, work automation, artificial intelligence and digital platforms and how these developments are reshaping the work environment, the skills employers need and the opportunities available for business and innovation.
