Police in Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested 75 suspects during a series of coordinated security operations targeting crime and illegal motorcycle activities across several high-risk areas.
According to a statement issued by Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations were conducted between March 15 and 17, 2026, covering Mutungo Zone 4, Nasuti in Mukono, Mbuya I Parish, Kireku Railway Zone, Kireku Main Zone, Bweyogerere Central Zone, and Wabigalo Parish.
Police said the intelligence-led operations focused on areas known for harbouring individuals involved in robbery, burglary, theft, as well as the sale and consumption of narcotic substances.
“As a result of these operations, a total of 75 suspects were arrested and are currently in custody. They are facing charges related to possession of narcotic substances and public nuisance,” the statement noted.
Authorities also recovered several exhibits believed to be linked to criminal activity.

In a significant development, police impounded seven motorcycles from a garage in Mbuya I Parish suspected to be engaged in altering and reconditioning motorcycle parts, raising concerns about possible links to organised crime.
Of the motorcycles seized, two had no number plates, two had concealed number plates, while three bore suspected fake number plates. Police said the motorcycles are undergoing verification as investigations continue.
In a separate but related incident in Masooli Cell, Kasangati, a suspected thief armed with a panga was lynched by a mob after he allegedly attempted to target poultry farms with accomplices.
Police responded to the scene, documented evidence, and have since launched inquiries into the mob action.
All arrested suspects remain detained at various police stations pending screening and subsequent prosecution.
Police leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining such operations as part of broader efforts to enhance public safety and curb crime within the metropolitan region.
