The head of the Uganda Prisons Service has announced a Shs10 million reward for anyone who provides credible information that leads to the arrest of a prison warder accused of killing four people in Kiboga District.

Johnson Byabasaija, the Commissioner General of Prisons, authorised the bounty as security agencies intensify the hunt for the suspect, identified as Moses Anguyo.

According to prison authorities, Anguyo has been on the run since February 23, 2026, when he allegedly carried out a deadly shooting at Kiboga Prisons.

The announcement was made through a statement issued by Frank Baine Mayanja, the spokesperson of the Uganda Prisons Service, who said the reward was intended to encourage members of the public to assist security agencies with information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.

Authorities say the incident occurred after Anguyo, who was attached to Kiboga Prisons, was cautioned by his supervisors over the use of WhatsApp during working hours.

Following the warning, he allegedly opened fire on his superiors.

During the shooting, Anguyo reportedly killed Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, who served as the deputy officer in charge of Kiboga Prisons, and Principal Officer One Bright Akishuri, the third in command at the same facility.

Investigators say the suspect later proceeded to the residence of the officer in charge of Kiboga Prisons with the intention of attacking him.

However, the officer was not at home at the time.

Instead, Anguyo allegedly shot and killed the officer’s wife, Sarah Ayebare.

During the incident, a one-year-old child identified as Salson Nuwagaba, Ayebare’s son, was struck by a stray bullet and later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Kiboga Hospital.

After the attack, the suspect reportedly abandoned the firearm used in the shooting before fleeing the area.

Security sources say he later entered a nearby shop where he removed his prison uniform, changed into civilian clothing and disappeared.

Since the incident, joint security teams from the Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prisons Service and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces have been conducting a manhunt for the suspect within Kiboga District and surrounding areas.

Baine said any member of the public who provides credible information leading to the arrest of Anguyo will receive the Shs10 million reward.

He assured potential informants that their identities would remain confidential and urged the public to share information through the toll-free lines 999 or 0800144144 or through the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, the victims of the shooting have already been laid to rest in different parts of the country.

Hope Catherine was buried in Rwampara District, Bright Akishuri in Kisoro District, while Sarah Ayebare and her child were buried in Kabale District.
