Police have arrested five suspects believed to be behind a series of motorcycle robberies that have been reported in Lubowa and Ndejje areas since June 2025.
According to Rachel Kawala, the suspects were arrested during an intelligence-led operation conducted on March 5, 2026, by officers from Uganda Police Force.
Kawala said the operation followed months of investigations into increasing cases of motorcycle theft in the areas of Lubowa and Ndejje.
Police first arrested a key suspect in Kyengera Town Council, who later led investigators to the arrest of his accomplices.
“So far five suspects have been arrested and one motorcycle registration number UMA 663HM has been recovered as an exhibit,” Kawala said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that at least 40 motorcycles have been stolen from riders operating within Lubowa and Ndejje since June 2025.
Police say the suspects would allegedly rob the motorcycles before dismantling them and selling the spare parts on the black market.
Investigators have so far identified 14 victims whose motorcycles were stolen by the group.
Kawala noted that operations are continuing to arrest other suspects believed to be part of the criminal network or facilitating the illegal trade in dismantled motorcycle parts.
She added that investigations into the matter are still ongoing as police work to recover more stolen motorcycles and bring all those involved to justice.
