Lamwo District has commenced major road maintenance works in Palabek Abera Sub-county after receiving UGX 422 million from the Uganda Road Fund. The exercise, which began on March 2, 2026, is focusing on two key routes: the 24-kilometre Kamama Central–Pamo Road and the 24-kilometre Labworoyeng–Pager Road. Both roads are important links connecting rural communities to trading centres and neighbouring districts.
The LCIII Chairperson of Palabek Abera, Okot Patrick, welcomed the initiative, noting that it has come at the right time for the residents of the area.
He explained that the roads provide direct access to Kitgum District and also serve as alternative routes to Pader District and Gulu District. According to him, the improvement of these roads will significantly reduce travel time for residents while also boosting trade and the movement of goods and services.
The LC V Chairperson of Lamwo District, Oyet Sisto Ocen, said the funding demonstrates the government’s continued commitment to improving rural infrastructure across the district.
He noted that roads serving farming communities and trading centres were prioritized because agriculture remains the backbone of the local economy. Ocen also urged residents to cooperate with the technical teams implementing the works to ensure the project is completed successfully.
Meanwhile, the Resident District Commissioner of Lamwo, William Komakech, praised the quick rollout of the road maintenance works and pledged close monitoring to guarantee transparency and accountability.
Komakech warned contractors and responsible officers against any misuse of the funds and encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report any irregularities that may arise during the implementation of the project.
