Shock and grief have engulfed a school in Wakiso District after a 14-year-old pupil was found dead inside a dormitory in what police suspect to be suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Kiseka John Terry, a Primary Five pupil at Kololo Junior School located in Kayunga Cell, Gombe Ward in Wakiso Town Council.

According to police, the tragic incident happened on Monday night at around 8:00pm shortly after pupils returned from evening preparation.

Preliminary police findings show that the pupils were heading back to the dormitory when they made a horrifying discovery.

They found their fellow pupil hanging inside the dormitory.

The frightened pupils immediately alerted the school matron who in turn informed the school director before police were contacted.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Terry’s body suspended from a roofing pole using a red scarf inside one of the dormitories.

Police have since arrested the school director and the matron to assist with ongoing investigations.

The body of the deceased was later transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Police say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the suspected suicide.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala has called upon schools, parents and guardians to remain vigilant and take children’s mental wellbeing seriously.

She urged parents and school authorities to immediately report cases of distress or depression among children and to ensure that young learners are given time to talk about their challenges both at home and at school.
