The Minister of State for Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama has commissioned Kyenyonga – Kikada trial hybrid amidst the excitement from residents and motorists due to the visible progress of the bridge which covers three villages of Kikada, Kyenyonga and Kihunumba providing a shorter link between the three villages.

The Kyenyonga – Kikada is part of the broader national programme implemented through a strong partnership between Ministry of Works and Transport and Bridges to Prosperity. In the past nine years the partnership and this collaboration has delivered 34 trial bridges across the multiple regions of Uganda mainly in the eastern region including districts characterized by mountainous and deep river valleys.

“Kyenyonga- Kikada hybrid is a practical step in the government’s drive to strengthen rural connectivity and unlock local productivity”, said Fred Byamukama.

The Kyenyonga- Kikada project is a community project aimed at improving access to the rural isolated communities living in hard to reach areas characterized by difficult topography features.

These regional interventions demonstrate government commitment to equitable infrastructure ensuring that hard to reach areas and geographically disadvantaged communities are not left behind. The construction of bridges in Uganda highlight the critical importance of bridges for economic stability, regional trade and community access particularly as the country faces challenges due to flooding and aging structures.
