The Minister of Works and Transport General Katumba Wamala has spent the last two days inspecting and monitoring road projects in central region. Katumba with officials from the Works Ministry intended to underscore the progress of ongoing road projects that are key in aiding the realization of the country’s Vision 2040 development goals transcending Uganda from developing countries status to middle income status.
The Minister started with the 6.7Km Kawuku-Bwerenga road which is currently on gravel and forms part of the Uganda national roads network and is expected to be done by end of May 2026 due to delays in acquiring the right of Way.
Wamala proceeded to Najjanankumbi- Busabala road of 11Km to be upgraded to Paved standards with rehabilitation of Namasole road link and signalization of Namasole and Salama road junction.
The Minister concluded his day one with Kisubi – Nakawuka which is 27Km, Nakawuka- Kasanje which is 22Km, Nakawuka-Mawagulu which is 11 Km, Kasanje – Buwaya which is 9Km and ended with the inspection of Entebbe – Nakiwogo which is 35Km. On day two Katumba Wamala inspected Mityana- Mubende road which is 86Km connecting Mityana, Kassanda and Mubende districts.
Wamala advised contractors about timely completion of roads for strengthening Uganda’s transport and infrastructure, easing pressure on Major high ways and supporting transition to middle income status. He cited land acquisition as a major problem in the timely completion of road construction projects. “As a country Land acquisition is an impediment in the completion of these road projects and the cost of cost of land sometimes is higher than the actual construction of the road.
