Seven members of the same family have died in a tragic road traffic crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 27, 2025, along the Masaka–Mbarara Highway at Njagalakasayi in Lwengo District.
According to the Traffic Police spokesman Michael Kananura, the crash happened at about 4:30 a.m. and involved a Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBP 510V, and a Toyota Fielder, registration number UBH 476W.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of the Toyota Fielder, who was travelling from the Masaka direction, attempted to overtake a queue of vehicles before colliding head-on with the oncoming Fuso truck.
“All the seven occupants of the Toyota Fielder died on the spot,” Kananura confirmed
The deceased include a man, his wife, their four children, and the man’s brother, all of whom were travelling together at the time of the crash.
Kananura has called on motorists to exercise extreme caution on the roads, particularly during night hours.
“We urge all motorists to avoid reckless overtaking, especially at night when visibility is poor. Drivers are also advised to limit night travel where possible and ensure they are well-rested to avoid fatigue-related crashes,” Kananura said.
Police have since launched further investigations to establish all circumstances surrounding the crash as traffic along the busy highway was temporarily affected.
The Masaka–Mbarara highway is one of Uganda’s busiest routes and has in recent years recorded several fatal accidents, often linked to speeding, dangerous overtaking and driver fatigue.
