The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has directed his official allowances to fund the construction of a new classroom block and a comprehensive renovation of existing structures at
Bombo Barracks Nursery and Primary School.

The announcement marks the first fulfillment of a commitment Gen. Kainerugaba made upon assuming office: To dedicate the allowances attached to his position to public interventions where there is a clear and pressing need. A cheque totalling to UGX 300 million was formally handed over to the school administration by the CDF’s Military Assistant, Col Christopher Muwumba.

Speaking at the event attended by the school community, Brig. Gen. Richard Karemire, the UPDF Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports and Culture stated, “This money could have gone elsewhere, but the CDF committed it towards the education of our children.”  Karemire, thanked the CDF for his continued focus on supporting the welfare of soldiers and their families, many of whom have children at Bombo Barracks Nursery and Primary School.

He described the contribution as a timely and significant boost in the quest to improve the learning environment for soldiers’ children.

The project will directly address the need for improved educational facilities to foster a better environment for pupils. Brig. Gen. Karemire urged the engineers to ensure the timely completion of the construction and rehabilitation work.

He also highlighted other UPDF school projects being supported by the CDF, including construction of Ruhengyere Army Primary School and the rehabilitation of Lira Army Primary School among others.

Speaking at the same event, Col Muwumba said the support for Bombo Barracks Nursery and Primary School is only the beginning and represents more than just a financial contribution. “This represents a shared investment in the future, in the young minds of our nation. This is not just to the military fraternity but to the wider community we serve,” Col Muwumba noted adding that: “in the coming days and months, the initiative will extend to other worthy causes, aligning with broader government programs and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ (UPDF) spirit of altruism.”

The handover event was attended by the school administration, including the head teacher Lt Sharon Namuwenje and her deputy.
