Parliament of Uganda teams delivered a commanding performance on Sunday, 7 December 2025, sweeping victories across volleyball, netball, and basketball as the 15th EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games entered full swing.
At the MTN Arena Lugogo, Uganda’s volleyball teams set the tone with straight-set triumphs in their opening fixtures.
The women’s side, captained by Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, dismantled Rwanda 25–15, 25–20, 25–06, showcasing sharp serves and disciplined defense.
On the men’s front, Hon. Gaffa Mbwatekamwa led Uganda to a dominant 25–07, 25–12, 25–06 win over EALA, sealing a flawless start as both teams brace for their next tests against Kenya.
In the netball category, Uganda delivered the day’s most lopsided victory, crushing Kenya 72–12.
Hon. Juliet Kakande and captain Hon. Sarah Netalisire guided the team with clinical shooting and strong mid-court coordination, keeping Uganda in firm control from start to finish. Their next match is against Burundi.
Uganda’s women’s basketball team also extended the winning streak with a confident 40–20 victory over Kenya at the Lugogo Indoor Arena. The hosts won all four quarters through aggressive defense and fluid teamwork.
Team captain Hon. Suzan Amero starred with 16 points and 8 rebounds, backed by standout performances from Hon. Connie Galiwango, Hon. Hellen Nakimuli, and Hon. Stella Atyang.
Speaking after the match, Galiwango credited the win to discipline and the energy from the home supporters.
“Our domination was not a coincidence. We have trained hard, and playing at home with our incredible fans behind us absolutely helped us control the game,” she said.
With strong showings across all disciplines, Uganda’s Parliament teams have issued a bold statement as they embark on defending their regional titles.
The 15th EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games will continue over the next two weeks at multiple venues.
Beyond competition, organizers emphasise that the games are designed to deepen regional cooperation and promote public awareness on East African Community (EAC) integration.
EALA MP Gerald Siranda reaffirmed the broader vision behind this year’s edition, noting that the theme “Strengthening EAC Integration Through Parliamentary Sports” carries both legislative and developmental intent.
“Maybe we can use this to come up with good laws that support sports, develop infrastructure as we prepare to host the African Pamoja 2027, and also promote athletics and related disciplines,” Siranda said.
