The National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has commenced his campaign trail in the Kigezi Sub–region, at Saza Grounds in Kisoro District, where he outlined his manifesto and vision for the region and the country. He highlighted the need to protect and consolidate the gains made under NRM leadership.
Museveni said the NRM government has revived Uganda across key sectors including peace and security, infrastructure development, wealth creation, and job creation. He recalled government interventions that helped Kisoro overcome shortages of essential commodities and supported the restoration of major development enablers that he believes will propel Uganda to higher middle–income status.
Speaking at the launch of the NRM presidential campaign at Saza Grounds in Kisoro, Museveni criticized opposition candidates, arguing that they have not demonstrated the capacity to contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s development.
He announced plans for additional major tarmac roads in Kisoro District to boost the movement of goods and services. Roads earmarked for construction or upgrading include: Kabale–Bunyonyi–Mugahinga Road, Kisoro–Muko Road, Katuna–Muko–Kamuhangura Road and Kerere–Kanungu Road
Museveni noted that the NRM government has already constructed several major roads linking Kisoro and the entire Kigezi Sub–region to the rest of Uganda and neighboring countries—supporting trade and overall development. He assured the electorate of continued infrastructure improvements.
The NRM candidate urged residents to value and safeguard the existing peace and stability, warning against insecurity seen in neighboring areas across the border.
Museveni also issued a wealth creation guide, advising households to differentiate between national development and personal wealth creation. He emphasized that while government provides infrastructure and stability, families must take responsibility for improving their incomes.
He shared success stories from Uganda’s four-acre model, encouraging residents to consider enterprises such as poultry, coffee, dairy farming, fish farming, and piggery. Museveni promised to intensify funding for wealth creation programs and called for active community involvement, saying this would generate jobs in commercial agriculture, manufacturing, services, and other sectors.
The NRM presidential candidate further assured residents that government will extend electricity to Nyarubuye Sub–county, the only one out of Kisoro’s 24 sub–counties still awaiting connection. He highlighted progress in water distribution, telecommunications, and rural electrification, promising to address the remaining gaps.
Museveni also guided district leaders on proper planning for government schools, noting that although Kisoro has 140 government primary schools, they are unevenly distributed across the district’s 71 parishes. He reaffirmed the government policy of one primary school per parish and one secondary school per sub–county, promising additional schools in his next term.

The NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female), Anita Among, urged residents to evaluate Museveni’s performance in infrastructure development and reward him with another term.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, highlighted Museveni’s strengths compared to his opponents and encouraged voters to retain NRM in power.
NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Region, Jornad Asiimwe, called on residents to secure an NRM victory in the 2026 elections.
Former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, pointed to key NRM achievements in Kisoro and nationally, saying they should be protected by re-electing Museveni.
The event also featured a presentation of the Kisoro District status report by District NRM Chairperson Alex Ndayambaje.
