Mr. Lino Anguzu has officially assumed office as Uganda’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), following a formal handover from Justice Jane Frances Abodo, who was recently elevated to the position of Principal Judge.
The handover ceremony was presided over by the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the DPP (ODPP), Ms. Agnes Kainza Nzogi, and attended by members of the top and senior management. The transition was conducted in accordance with Public Service Standing Orders.
Mr. Anguzu, appointed earlier this month by President Yoweri Museveni, expressed his gratitude for the trust placed in him and pledged to lead the ODPP with diligence, integrity, and commitment. He acknowledged Justice Abodo’s mentorship and guidance during his career, and commended her for steering the ODPP over the past five years.
During his inaugural address, Anguzu introduced the “3Ds” philosophy of Devotion to God and hard work, Discipline, and Dedication which he said would guide the conduct of all staff and support the implementation of the ODPP’s five-year strategic plan. He also highlighted the contributions of top management to his professional growth and pledged to continue strengthening prosecution services.
Justice Abodo, in her farewell remarks, congratulated Anguzu on his appointment and encouraged him to make decisions firmly anchored in the law. She highlighted both the opportunities and challenges of the office, reassuring the new DPP that he inherits a capable team ready to support him.
Permanent Secretary Kainza welcomed Mr. Anguzu on behalf of ODPP staff, pledging their support and wishing him success. She also commended Justice Abodo for her exemplary stewardship over the past five years.
According to the ODPP, this leadership transition marks a new chapter aimed at enhancing professional prosecution services, building public trust, and contributing to national transformation toward a crime-free society.
