The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has clarified that a misprint on this year’s Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) Economics Paper 2 was a typographical error, and all exams remain valid.
Spokesperson Jennifer Kalule said the paper was entirely new, and the incorrect year 2024 instead of 2025 did not affect its content.
“We understand the outrage because the public holds us in high regard, and rightly so. UNEB is committed to transparency and excellence, and we are reviewing our processes to ensure this does not happen again.”Kalule said.
She also addressed concerns that the paper’s content was similar to that of last year, stating that its entirely different, even if those concerned double check.
UNEB issued urgent instructions to all examination centres, directing supervisors and head teachers to inform candidates to proceed with the examination as scheduled.
The misprint, which appeared on Tuesday’s Economics Paper 2, quickly sparked a social media storm, with netizens criticizing what they called a careless oversight in a process known for strict procedures and multiple verification layers.
One X (formerly Twitter) user questioned:
“With students facing immense pressure to perform perfectly, where even a single misplaced decimal can cost marks, how could the exam body afford such a slip-up?”
Despite the public criticism, Kalule assured that all exams will be marked according to standard procedures and no candidate will be disadvantaged due to the misprint.
