The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has concluded the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) for Primary Seven candidates and the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) for Senior Four candidates successfully.
During the UCE examination, UNEB reported 16 pregnant girls, including three breastfeeding mothers, and one candidate who had recently delivered. Support measures were provided to ensure these candidates were able to sit for their papers.
Jennifer Kalule, the UNEB spokesperson says some districts experienced challenges due to heavy rains, during the PLE exams , including Lira and Katakwi. For example, ITEX Swamp in Lira caused delays, and in Katakwi, eight schools were affected. UNEB, working with local authorities, relocated candidates to safe venues, including nearby churches. She hailed community members who helped drain flooded classrooms and provide stones to allow safe exam conditions.
Kalule further revealed that UNEB also reported 55 cases of examination malpractice, mostly involving teachers attempting to provide external assistance to candidates, such as cutting envelopes or bribing exam scouts. One headteacher, Shea Dedrick of Ravava Primary School, was arrested for denying a registered candidate the right to sit the Mathematics paper over an illegal 70,000 UGX coaching fee. He was granted bail and the case is set for mention on 16 December 2025.
UNEB praised police, security, and judicial personnel for their vigilance and contributions to a smooth examination process.
