The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) has arrested four suspects in connection with the death of 27-year-old Carol Nalubwama, who passed away on 28 October 2025 at Kiruddu National Referral Hospital. The victim, whose death has sparked public debate, was buried in early November.

Speaking to journalists, Luke Owyesigyire, KMP Deputy Police Spokesperson, confirmed Brian Kirumira as a key person of interest in the case is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard at a hospital along Entebbe Road.

“We only provide police guard while persons of interest are receiving treatment as part of ongoing investigations,” Owyesigyire explained.

The police clarified that while initial statements indicated the incident occurred on 24 October, investigations now show the tragic event took place on 22 October and was reported to authorities on 27 October, suggesting a delay likely caused by attempts to treat the victim.

He says Nalubwama was initially taken to Mabirizi Nursing Home, where she received preliminary care. However, the facility referred her to Kiruddu Hospital after realizing it could not handle her condition. Police reports indicate that due to unpaid hospital bills, the nursing home withheld Nalubwama, and even confiscated a laptop belonging to one of her caretakers.

As a result of this alleged negligence, police have arrested Joyce Irene Nnambalirwa, the owner of Mabirizi Nursing Home, on charges of negligence causing death.

“Because of this hold-up, which lasted several hours, the victim’s condition worsened and she died upon reaching Kiruddu Hospital,” Owyesigyire said.

In addition to Nnambalirwa, police have also taken into custody three other suspects: Nalunga Daisy, Avaho Daphine, and Nakato Nava, the latter believed to be the wife of Brian Kirumira, whose involvement is also under investigation.

Owyesigyire confirmed that the Resident State Attorney is reviewing the file to provide legal guidance on the next steps, including whether charges will be formally sanctioned against the suspects.

The police revealed that the investigation is ongoing and promised to provide further updates as they become available.

The incident occurred at the residence of socialite Brian Kirumira (aka “Bryan White”) in Kyamula, Makindye Division in Kampala. It was previously reported that the  victim sustained serious injuries from an alleged gas explosion  and was taken to Kiruddu National Referral Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. UPF opened an inquiry file under the Katwe Police Division, treating the matter as suspicious possibly involving an explosion or other criminal element.

Police later recovered forensic evidence: burnt clothing, damaged curtains, etc., from the scene. A post‑mortem examination at the City Mortuary, Mulago, has been conducted (or is in process).

CCTV footage was retrieved, witnesses interviewed, and the scene documented by detectives and fire , forensic experts
