The Electoral Commission has officially announced the polling dates for the 2026 general elections, setting the stage for Uganda’s next major political season.
According to a press release signed by Justice Simon Byabakama Mugyenyi, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, the elections will be conducted between 12th January and 17th February 2026, covering positions from the presidency to local government councils.
The program begins with the election of Councillors for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Older Persons, and Youth Committees at Sub-county and Town Council levels, scheduled for 12th January 2026. It will be followed by the election of Sub-county and Town Council Chairpersons on 13th January 2026.
The Presidential Election, which is expected to attract national attention, will take place on 27th January 2026, alongside the Parliamentary Elections for directly elected MPs and District Woman Representatives.
Justice Byabakama noted that these dates were set in line with Article 61 of the Constitution, which mandates the Commission to organize regular, free, and fair elections within the first thirty days before the expiration of the term of the President and Parliament.

The Commission has advised political parties and candidates to adhere strictly to the electoral guidelines and campaign timetable to ensure smooth and peaceful elections.
Justice Byabakama reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to conducting the elections in a transparent and credible manner that upholds the democratic values of Uganda.
