Under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Richard Yego, MTN MoMo Uganda is taking a significant step to champion financial inclusion and accelerate Uganda’s digital transformation. This follows Yego’s announcement of a strategic partnership with the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA), which will see the upcoming 31st Uganda International Trade Fair become a fully cashless event for the first time in its history.

This move, discussed in a high-level meeting between Yego and a team from UMA led by the Board Chairman, Aga Sekalala, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, is a powerful statement of commitment to the trade fair’s theme: “Sustainable industrialisation for inclusive growth, employment, and wealth creation.”

Yego’s vision for financial inclusion in Uganda is clearly demonstrated by this groundbreaking initiative. By making the entire trade fair cashless, MTN MoMo is not just modernising an event; it’s providing a real-world use case for digital payments that can benefit thousands of traders and consumers. The decision to offer tickets exclusively through the MoMo App at a 50% discount directly tackles two major barriers to financial inclusion: accessibility and affordability. This makes the digital economy more tangible and welcoming for a broader segment of the population.

In Yego’s words, this collaboration is about “walking this journey together” and ensuring shared success. This commitment, however, extends beyond the event, aiming to build stronger, long-term partnerships that drive a more inclusive and tech-driven economy.

This partnership by MTN MoMo with UMA, led by Chairman Sekalala, is a key part of this strategy. As Sekalala noted, the collaboration is not a one-off event but a continuous effort to create a seamless, innovative, and inclusive platform that empowers businesses and strengthens Uganda’s manufacturing landscape.

By embracing digital payments, Sekalala asserted that Ugandan businesses, from large manufacturers to small-scale vendors, can gain access to the tools needed to operate more efficiently, securely, and transparently. This initiative exemplifies how technology, when championed by a clear vision, can be a powerful catalyst for inclusive economic growth.

It helps to secure a more sustainable and prosperous future for Uganda’s industrial sector and brings the country one step closer to its goal of full digital transformation, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and prosperous future for Uganda’s industrial sector.
