Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Liu Yuxi, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs. The high-level discussion focused on strengthening diplomatic and military ties between the two nations, reflecting the deepening partnership that has evolved over nearly four decades .

The meeting, which took place at the Chinese Foreign Ministry in Beijing, built upon the momentum of Gen. Kainerugaba’s earlier engagements in China, including his visit to the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC) and the signing of a new defence pact with General Liu Zhenli, Chief of the Joint Staff Department of China’s Central Military Commission .

Gen. Kainerugaba and Mr. Liu Yuxi discussed a wide range of issues, including peace and security in Africa, economic collaboration, and the role of Uganda and China in fostering stability on the continent. The talks also emphasized the importance of aligning security cooperation with economic development. This engagement underscores Uganda’s commitment to expanding its global defence partnerships while reinforcing its historical ties with China, which have been cultivated since 1986 .

Gen Kainerugaba’s engagements in Beijing highlight China’s role as a key partner for Uganda in several areas including defence and economic sectors.

The meeting with Mr. Liu Yuxi, who represents China’s strategic interests in Africa, further solidifies the multifaceted relationship between the two countries, encompassing trade, infrastructure development, and regional security initiatives .

As Gen Kainerugaba’s visit continues, both nations are expected to explore new opportunities for collaboration in defence, economic growth, and peacekeeping operations. The meeting at the Chinese Foreign Ministry was also attended by Uganda’s Ambassador to China, Oliver Wonekha, alongside General Kainerugaba’s delegation, with high-ranking Chinese officials also in attendance.
