If Bobi Wine’s Lullabies Can’t Put Besigye to Sleep, They Won’t for Ugandans
Kyadondo East Legislator, also presidential hopeful, people power Chief ‘vocalist’, Robert Kyagulanyi (aka Bobi Wine), has been evidently been irked by Dr. Besigye’s and FDC’s refusal to join in the recently formed political alliance called the DP bloc – a combination of political parties that believe in uniting for the cause of removing President Museveni from power.
Apart from ever getting it the wrong way and riding on a non-starter ideology of individualizing the problems of Uganda to President Museveni, the group that composes of SDP (Social Democratic Party), DP (Democratic Party) and PDP (People’s Democratic Party); the triad once again fails in their diagnosis of the issues at stake for Uganda as a Nation.
It is further noticed that; FDC is stuck to her guns of not joining with any political party, as it was in the 2016 elections, despite having been whipped around by civil society groups, FDC refused to join the political frenzy of TDA (The Democratic Alliance).
FDC’s phobia for alliances
For one to ably appreciate FDC’s phobia of political alliances, must flash back to the formative stages of FDC as a party. FDC’s formation was as a result of a baby sleep lullaby sang to DP in 2001 and as DP went to sleep politically, Besigye gained ground. His political step up was through PAFO a pressure group formed in Parliament by the likes of Betty Kamya, Emmanuel Dombo, Salam Musumba, Ben Wacha, Abdu Katuntu, Augustine Ruzindana etc. Later, PAFO transformed into reform agenda and then FDC which also had convinced Chapa Karuhanga of NDF (National Democratic Forum) that was based then at Katonga Road present day defiance campaign coordination base.
Besigye had succeeded in deluding DP, and ‘Seya’ Nasser Ntege Ssebagala who willingly delivered all his support base to Besigye in the 2001 elections. This election was a groundbreaker for Besigye’s future political trademark yet to come. Since the announcement of the PAFO and Reform Agenda merger on July 23rd 2004 that gave birth to the Forum for Democratic Change Party (FDC), pundits had glowingly talked of a new phase of opposition since President Museveni took power in 1986.
The merger was portrayed as an auspicious formation bound to draw more parties and political units to form an unassailable force that would give President Museveni a run for his money if he had stood in the 2006 presidential polls.
Nothing has ever since materialized except the much known gimmicks of claims of rigged elections and subsequent threats of a people’s uprising.
Bobi Wine was seen in 2016, swinging into action to the veteran politician’s home in Kasangati after security restriction on his movements as he drummed support and rallied his supporters towards a defiance campaign.
Bobi played a guitar consoling or was it meant to be an entertainment stunt for the political doctor.
Today Bobi is mistaken to think that Besigye went to sleep by that baby sleep lullaby he lampooned on his guitar as a ‘show’ of support.
No! Mr. Kyagulanyi, Besigye is awake and he is well aware of how he manipulated his way to the political scene, same way you Mr. Kyagulanyi is trying and definitely he can’t fall for the trick.
Mr. Kyagulanyi may manage to swallow a few disoriented Youths and politicians form one Party or another but it is definitely a hard toll to get FDC on truck!
