The Territorial Police in Nakasongola District are investigating a fatal road accident that claimed five lives and left six others injured along the Kampala–Gulu highway.

According to a statement issued by ASP S. TwiineAmazima, the spokesperson for the Savannah Region, the accident occurred on the evening of Sunday, June 8, 2025, at approximately 8:30 PM in Kyalweza village, Wabinyonyi Sub-county.

The crash involved two motor vehicles , a white Toyota Hiace registration number UA 415AV, and a white Nissan Diesel truck with registration number UBL 615T. Both drivers remain unidentified.

Preliminary findings suggest that the Toyota Hiace, which was travelling at high speed from the Kampala side, left its lane and collided head-on with the Nissan Diesel truck that was approaching from the Gulu direction. Five occupants died at the scene while six others sustained serious injuries.

Police responded promptly, visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from eyewitnesses, and registered a case of fatal accident. The injured victims were transported to Nakasongola Health Centre IV and Kiryandongo Hospital for medical treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for postmortem examination.

The vehicles were later towed to Katuugo Park Yard pending further inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).

“More inquiries are underway to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident,” ASP TwiineAmazima confirmed.

Authorities have called for calm as investigations continue.
