The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), a political party associated with opposition stalwart Col (Rtd) Dr. Kizza Besigye, has officially received its certificate of registration from the Electoral Commission (EC), granting it full legal status to operate and participate in elections in Uganda.
The milestone was marked on Thursday, where top PFF leaders, including interim president Mr. Erias Lukwago, received the certificate from EC officials. The development comes after months of scrutiny and anticipation, as the party underwent the rigorous legal and administrative processes required for official registration.
Speaking shortly after receiving the certificate, Lukwago described the moment as a significant validation of the party’s efforts.
“This certificate marks an important achievement. Katonga has existed and will continue to exist. We already had our agenda we were not waiting for this paper to begin our mission,” he said.
He reiterated that the People’s Front for Freedom is committed to working collaboratively with other opposition parties and actors pursuing regime change in Uganda.
“We are not here to fight fellow agents of change. Our agenda is to work together, to strengthen the bond among opposition forces. If you are not with the NRM, this milestone is worth celebrating, it adds to the foundation we’ve long championed,” Lukwago added.
Mr. Kennedy Okello, the party’s interim secretary for the presidency and one of its key promoters, reflected on the party’s lengthy registration journey.
“We started this process almost eight months ago. It has been challenging but we stayed focused and patient,” he said.
The PFF now joins Uganda’s growing list of political parties, and leaders say they are ready to roll out their programs and actively participate in shaping the country’s democratic space.
