The Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs of Uganda, officially welcomed Professor Pontiano Kaleebu, Director of the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) and Head of Viral Pathogens, together with Dr. Deogratius Ssemwanga (PhD), Assistant Director of UVRI, to the Ministry of EAC Uganda offices located at Kingdom Kampala House.

Their discussions centered on the forthcoming national launch of Phase Three of the €3 million EAC Network for Reference Laboratories.

This significant initiative is designed to enhance regional diagnostic capabilities and bolster disease surveillance across the East African Community.

During the meeting, the officials provided the Minister with a comprehensive update on the progress achieved in strengthening laboratory infrastructure throughout the EAC region, underscoring Uganda’s steadfast commitment to advancing public health innovation.
