Lt Col Peter Ruyogoza Barigye, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) deployed under the United Nations Guard Unit XI (UNGU XI), has urged officers to uphold professionalism, discipline, and vigilance as they execute their duties in Somalia.

Speaking to both senior and junior commanders during a briefing Lt Col Barigye emphasised the importance of maintaining focus, collaboration, and a sense of responsibility while executing their mission under the UN mandate.

“Professionalism, discipline, and vigilance must remain our guiding principles,” said Lt Col Barigye.

Deputy Commander Maj Jacob Gowan Kaburika encouraged the troops to maintain high morale and a strong work ethic, noting that “these values are central to the UPDF’s reputation and effectiveness.”

The meeting was attended by key officers responsible for operational coordination and welfare, including representatives from the Female Engagement Team, Civil-Military Cooperation, and the Military Information Office.
