Police have confirmed a fatal road accident that occurred this morning, 7th May 2025, at around 5:30 a.m. at Igogero Swamp along the Tororo–Iganga Highway. The accident involved a Toyota Hiace ‘Drone’ with registration number UBR 385J and a trailer bearing registration number UBB 838H, which was pulling a second trailer registered as UAD 390J.

Four survivors—one female and three males—were rushed to Bugiri Hospital for emergency medical attention. The bodies of the five deceased individuals were taken to the Bugiri Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations and identification.

According to the Busoga East Police Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Michael Kafayo, preliminary reports suggest that both vehicles were heading in the same direction toward Iganga. Upon reaching Igogero Swamp, the driver of the Toyota Hiace attempted to overtake the trailer. However, upon noticing an oncoming vehicle in the opposite lane, he swerved back into his original lane and ended up crashing into the rear of the trailer.

Tragically, five people, including the driver of the Hiace, died on the spot as a result of the collision.

The trailer driver safely drove to the nearest police station and reported the incident.

Investigations into the exact cause of the accident are ongoing as authorities urge all road users to exercise extreme caution, especially during overtaking maneuvers
