The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Enforcement teams have successfully intercepted attempts to smuggle large quantities of illegal Super Match cigarettes into the local market, with a total of 5,945 bombas seized in operations across Gulu, Arua, and Corner Kamdini.
At the Gulu Logistics Hub, the URA team impounded two vehicles containing 4,500 bombas of smuggled Super Match cigarettes, which were reportedly manufactured in South Sudan. The cigarettes were discovered in Rom village, located in Koro Lapainat.
In Arua, the enforcement team retrieved 100 cartons of Super Match cigarettes from a consolidation center in Manibe, a key point for smuggling operations in the region.
A separate operation in Corner Kamdini on Thursday, April 10, 2025, resulted in the seizure of 1,345 bombas of Super Match cigarettes. The contraband was found in a black Toyota Ipsum (registration UAT 452J), which was fully loaded with the illicit goods. The vehicle has been seized, and URA officials are continuing to search for the owner.
The ongoing operations are part of URA’s efforts to curb the influx of illegal goods into Uganda and ensure fair trade practices within the market. The authority has vowed to continue its crackdown on cigarette smuggling and other illicit activities affecting the economy.
Authorities are urging the public to report any information related to smuggling activities to support their efforts in maintaining the integrity of Uganda’s trade systems.
