Renowned Author Dr Oloya Visits UPDF Joint Chief of Staff, Praises Army Leadership
Famous author Dr. Opiyo Oloya has paid a courtesy call to the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) Joint Chief of Staff Lt Gen Joseph Musanyufu at his office in Mbuya.
Dr. Oloya who is also an educator has been living in Canada for over 3 decades having fled the country during Milton Obote’s regime.
During the short courtesy visit on Tuesday, Dr. Oloya thanked the UPDF leadership for turning a guerrilla force into a professional army that has become an ambassador for global peace.
Uganda has its soldiers in Somalia under AMISOM and has previously contributed peacekeeping troops in South Sudan and the Central Africa Republic among other countries.
Dr. Oloya is an author of several books including Black Hawks Rising – a book that tells the story of the formation and deployment of the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) in March 2007.
Dr. Opiyo Oloya is a Ugandan who has been living in Canada for the past 38 years. He went into exile in 1981 as an outspoken university student being hunted by the Milton Obote government
