HIDDEN UGANDA is the latest one-hour global television special hosted by legendary, Emmy award-winning journalist Peter Greenberg, and it marks the very first HIDDEN production filmed on the African continent.
To commemorate this milestone, a special VIP screening was held on February 12, 2025, in New York ahead of the official broadcast launch.
The event was attended by a high-level delegation from Uganda, led by Diana Kyaremera, who represented the President of Uganda.
The delegation also included Hon. Martin Mugara, Minister of State for Tourism, Doreen Katusiime, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, and Priscilla Butagira, Special Presidential Assistant on Tourism at State House.
Additionally, Uganda’s delegation from the United States, led by Ambassador Robbie Kakonge and Ambassador Duncan Muhumuza, was also in attendance.
The guest list featured key partners from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led by Regional Deputy Director Aissata De, along with US-based tour operators and journalists.
HIDDEN UGANDA offers viewers an in-depth exploration of Uganda, showcasing its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and unique experiences.
During filming, Peter Greenberg embarked on a series of extraordinary adventures, from a deep dive into Kampala’s vibrant street food scene to adrenaline-pumping white-water rafting on the River Nile.
The documentary also features unforgettable gorilla trekking expeditions in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, lively jam sessions with local bands blending ancient instruments with modern sounds, and visits to chimpanzee reserves on Lake Victoria. Greenberg also takes viewers to traditional coffee farms where beans are ground using age-old methods, and even joins Uganda’s national baseball team for a training session.
HIDDEN UGANDA is now being rolled out to PBS television stations across the United States and will officially be available for streaming starting March 17 on Amazon, Prime Video, and Apple TV+.
The program will air on PBS for three consecutive months, offering sustained visibility for Uganda.
In the United States, 58% of all television households — representing over 130 million people — regularly watch PBS through traditional television.
PBS and its member stations remain America’s leading platform for documentary storytelling. During the 2022-2023 season alone, PBS aired more than 200 hours of new documentary content, reaching an audience of over 50 million viewers.
The HIDDEN UGANDA documentary is expected to provide a significant boost to Uganda’s tourism promotion efforts, particularly within the lucrative US travel market.
By showcasing Uganda’s cultural wealth, natural beauty, and wide array of tourism experiences, the documentary will help raise the country’s profile and attract more American visitors to the Pearl of Africa.
