The Kigezi sub-region is gearing up for a major event as President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to visit from February 12th to 15th, 2025, as part of his ongoing Presidential Zonal Tour.
This tour is a key initiative by the government to assess and promote wealth creation programs across the country, ensuring that citizens benefit from various economic transformation strategies.
On Tuesday afternoon and evening, members of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) convened a high-level meeting to brief leaders from the Kigezi sub-region about the upcoming tour. The meeting was attended by:
Government Chief Whip, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua
State Minister of Investment, Hon. Evelyn Anite
State House Comptroller, Jane Barekye
The briefing aimed at ensuring that the Kigezi leadership is well-prepared for the President’s visit. The Presidential Zonal Tour is structured to:
Evaluate the implementation of government wealth creation programs such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).
Showcase successful model farmers who have benefited from government initiatives in commercial agriculture and agribusiness.
Engage regional leaders in discussions about economic transformation and sustainable development.
Hold a public rally, where President Museveni will address citizens on matters of national development and economic empowerment.
The Presidential Zonal Tour National Organizing Committee (NOC) is chaired by Vice President H.E. Jessica Alupo, who is already in the Kigezi sub-region to oversee preparations. Other prominent government officials involved in the planning include:
Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja
NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong
Government Chief Whip, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua
State Minister of Investment, Hon. Evelyn Anite
State House Comptroller, Jane Barekye
Commissioner for the National Secretariat of Patriotism, Hellen Seku
These leaders are working hand-in-hand with local authorities to ensure the success of the tour.

Hon. David Bahati, State Minister of Industry
Hon. Henry Musasizi, State Minister of Finance
These officials will play a crucial role in ensuring that local communities fully engage with the President’s message on wealth creation.
Kigezi sub-region, known for its hilly terrain and rich agricultural potential, has been a key area for government interventions in commercial farming and agro-industrialization. The region has witnessed steady economic progress due to:
Expansion of commercial farming in coffee, tea, and dairy production.
Increased investment in agro-processing industries and value addition.
Implementation of wealth creation programs to uplift rural farmers.
However, challenges such as land fragmentation, unemployment, and access to credit remain significant.
The President’s visit will provide a platform for local farmers and entrepreneurs to present their concerns and seek government interventions.
The tour is expected to yield significant benefits for the Kigezi sub-region, including:
Strengthened government support for wealth creation initiatives.
Increased awareness among farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs on how to benefit from government programs.
Improved collaboration between national and local leaders to accelerate economic transformation.
Opportunities for feedback and recommendations from local communities regarding policy implementation.
As the Kigezi sub-region prepares to welcome President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, there is great anticipation among local leaders and citizens.
The four-day tour will provide an opportunity to evaluate the success of government programs, address challenges, and reinforce Uganda’s vision for economic growth and self-sustainability.
With Vice President Jessica Alupo and other senior government officials leading the coordination, the Presidential Zonal Tour promises to be a transformative engagement for the people of Kigezi.
