Museveni Meets Austrian Delegation to Boost Uganda’s Carbon Market.
Entebbe, Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni met with a delegation from Austrian-based EcoNetix at State House Entebbe to explore Uganda’s vast carbon removal potential and discuss a partnership aimed at positioning the country as a leader in the global carbon market.
The delegation, led by Mrs. Olivia Mugabe, Mitterer, included former Consul General Carl-Philipp Wipfler, H.E. Elisabeth Koestinger (former Austrian Minister of Environment and Agriculture), and EcoNetix founders Jakob Zenz and Paul Nimmerfall.
Uganda’s Carbon Potential and Investment Opportunities:
Welcoming the delegation, President Museveni encouraged European entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in Uganda, emphasizing the country’s abundant land and labor resources. “The Chinese have capital and entrepreneurship, and we have labor and land. So, I am very happy to see some European entrepreneurs,” Museveni stated.
With over 3 million hectares of forest and 14 million hectares of agricultural land, Uganda holds significant carbon removal potential. The EcoNetix delegation presented an ambitious plan to support high-integrity carbon credit projects that align with Uganda’s sustainability goals.
A $500 Million Climate Investment Boost:
EcoNetix is set to become one of Uganda’s key implementation partners, working to elevate farmers and forestry projects while driving economic benefits. “EcoNetix is delighted to work with the Government of Uganda to unlock its full carbon removal potential,” said Jakob Zenz, one of the company’s founders.
The partnership is expected to attract up to $500 million in investments, reinforcing Uganda’s commitment to climate resilience and providing financial opportunities for local communities.
Uganda aims to strengthen its role in the global fight against climate change while enhancing livelihoods through sustainable land use practices by scaling up carbon credit initiatives.
