The Uganda Police Force has addressed allegations circulating on social media regarding the harassment of local youths in Nsangi, Buddo, Wakiso District.
Several videos, widely shared on TikTok, show individuals purported to be police officers coercing youths into vehicles, parading them with pangas and machetes, and forcing them to take photographs in front of Nakasozi Police Post.
Locals have raised concerns, claiming that these incidents involve torture and are part of a larger plot to frame innocent community members for crimes, echoing fears linked to the cases of slain Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana.
Responding to the allegations, Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma stated at the Police Headquarters in Naguru that the police are taking the matter seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation. Kituuma clarified that Nakasozi Police Post is currently undergoing renovations, and as a result, the force is operating from Budo King’s College Police Post.
While Kituuma acknowledged that initial reactions to the videos might suggest that they were created by “reckless individuals,” he emphasized that the police are not taking the situation lightly, as there may be organized individuals behind these acts, potentially using them to send political messages or create confusion.
“But on the other side, as security, we don’t take their messages lightly because there might be some organized people behind them trying to send either political messages or actually real criminal. This could be some kind of reverse psychology at play.” he said
Adding that ; “Anything is possible. But what we are wanting is should we find anybody behind this? If we find these allegations false and intended to be alarmist, some people are going to really answer. And that’s the message I would like to pass on.”
He stressed that if the allegations are found to be false and intended to provoke alarm, those responsible will be held accountable.
