NRM, Kenya’s UDA Forge Political Cooperation with New MOU

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Kenya’s ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at fostering political cooperation between the two parties.

The agreement was reached after several days of discussions focused on strengthening relations and exploring ways to enhance collaboration. The MOU was signed on Saturday by NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong and UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar.

Speaking at a meeting with the visiting UDA delegation at the NRM headquarters, Todwong highlighted that the agreement would help the two parties build a stronger relationship and share experiences.

“With this memorandum of understanding, our party-to-party relations will see greater development,” he said. Todwong added that the agreement would include more high-level exchanges and mutual sharing of ideas.

“We greatly value the friendship we share with our Kenyan neighbours. We see Kenya as a reliable friend and an important partner,” Todwong remarked.

Senator Omar expressed his party’s desire to strengthen ties with the NRM and learn from its success in maintaining leadership for nearly four decades. “We are here to seek knowledge, ideas, and share experiences that will help us move forward as brothers in Uganda and Kenya, and towards the realization of the East African Federation,” Omar stated. He also emphasized that despite any challenges, the bond between Uganda and Kenya would remain strong due to their many shared similarities.

Maj. Pollar Awich, the NRM’s Director for External Affairs, expressed the party’s pleasure in hosting the UDA delegation and sharing insights. “We have gained valuable lessons from our discussions, which we plan to incorporate into our own strategies,” Awich said.

The meeting was attended by members of the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), including Hon. Lydia Wanyoto, the Party Women’s League Chairperson; Hon. James Tweheyo, Chairperson of the Workers League; and several other party leaders, such as Hon. Emmanuel Dombo (Communications) and Counsel Enoch Barata (Legal Affairs).

On Friday last week, they had the opportunity to meet with the NRM National Chairman and President, Gen. (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, at State House in Entebbe.
