The 4 Infantry Division Commander, Major General Felix Busizoori, has called on leaders in Northern Uganda, particularly in Amuru District, to prioritise identifying and addressing the challenges affecting their communities.
Speaking at the launch of the Defence Forces’ Tarehe Sita Week activities at Amuru District headquarters, Maj Gen Busizoori emphasised the need for proactive leadership in service delivery. The activities included community cleaning, free medical services and tree planting.
“It is the leader’s responsibility to be accountable for service delivery. But how do you know the problems facing your people if you don’t reach out to them? You need to engage with the community to understand what is affecting their livelihoods,” Maj Gen Busizoori stated.
He underscored the importance of national cohesion, urging citizens to embrace unity, patriotism, and government programs as key drivers in the fight against poverty. He encouraged the people of Northern Uganda to take advantage of the prevailing peace to foster economic transformation.
Amuru District Member of Parliament, Hon. Gilbert Olanya, commended UPDF’s professionalism and, in particular, Maj Gen Busizoori for his role in resolving the long-standing Apaa land conflict between the Madi of Adjumani and the Acholi of Amuru.
“There is no more use of the Apaa land conflict for political gain since the two previously warring ethnic groups now coexist harmoniously. This is due to the unique leadership approach Gen Busizoori has applied,” Hon. Olanya stated.
His sentiments were echoed by LC V Chairman Mr. Michael Lakony, who praised Gen Busizoori’s efforts in implementing Presidential Executive Order No. 3 on the charcoal ban and environmental protection in Zoka Forest.
The Amuru district Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Geoffrey Osborn Oceng, also applauded Gen Busizoori’s leadership in promoting unity and identifying the region’s challenges.
“We recognize the role played by the UPDF in the Acholi sub-region under your leadership, particularly in restoring sanity in Apaa. People can now sleep in their homes and go about their daily activities without interference. This is clear proof that the General is ideologically grounded,” Mr. Oceng stated.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Amuru District CAO Mr. Otai Charles, Amuru Mayor His Worship Daniel Ochiti, Deputy 4th Infantry Division Commander Col Jackson Kayanja, 501 Brigade Commander Col David Byaruhanga, and Mr. Geoffrey Ojara from 100 Trees Limited, who donated fruit trees to the UPDF.
Others present included members of the business community, NRM representatives, the Boda Boda Association, and the Vendors Association, among others.
