MTN-Busoga Masaza Cycling Championship Kicks off

The second edition of the MTN-Busoga Masaza Cycling Championship kicked off with great excitement on in Bulamogi Chiefdom, Kaliro District.

Hundreds of residents lined up along the roads to cheer on participants during the preliminary races, as cyclists from Bulamogi and Luuka Chiefdoms competed for qualification ahead of the championship finals.

The vibrant event was presided over by Owekitiibwa Amin Bbosa, Busoga Kingdom’s Minister of Sports, who was accompanied by the chairperson of the cycling committee. The colorful ceremony showcased the kingdom’s rich culture and sportsmanship while emphasizing the importance of cycling as a means of community mobilization and awareness.

In his address, Owekitiibwa Amin Bbosa extended heartfelt appreciation to MTN Uganda for its continued partnership with Busoga Kingdom in promoting sports and community development. The collaboration, he noted, has provided a unique platform to engage youth and other community members through sports while addressing critical social challenges.

“We are riding not just to win titles but also to mobilize men and boys to take a central role in preventing teenage pregnancies in our communities,” Owekitiibwa Bbosa remarked. He highlighted the need to involve men and boys in conversations and initiatives aimed at creating safer spaces for girls and young women.

The championship is not only a celebration of cycling but also a means to foster unity among the chiefdoms of Busoga.

The event has gained popularity since its inception, drawing cyclists of various ages and skill levels from different chiefdoms in the kingdom. This year, teams from Bulamogi and Luuka are set to battle it out for the ultimate title, with participants showcasing impressive endurance and cycling prowess.

Residents expressed their excitement about the competition, with many commending MTN Uganda for its role in nurturing local talent and providing a platform for cyclists to showcase their skills.
