Makerere Celebrates Excellence: Over 140 PhDs Among Graduates

Makerere University has officially commenced its 75th Graduation Ceremony at the Freedom Square.

The week-long event, running from Monday, January 13, to Friday, January 17, 2025, will see a total of 13,658 students receive their degrees and diplomas.

Presiding over the ceremony is the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga. This year’s cohort includes 143 PhD graduates (64 women, 79 men), 1,813 Master’s degree holders (768 women, 1,045 men), 243 Postgraduate Diploma recipients (96 women, 147 men), 11,455 Bachelor’s degree holders (6,369 women, 5,086 men), and 8 recipients of Undergraduate Diplomas (2 women, 6 men).

Among the outstanding graduates is Mr. Abdul Latif Umar Bagoole, who earned the title of best overall student and best in Humanities with a CGPA of 4.97 in the Bachelor of Leisure and Hospitality Management. Mr. Mubiru Enock Joel excelled as the top student in Sciences with a CGPA of 4.91 in the Bachelor of Science program.
