Kyagulanyi Rallies Youth for Leadership Ahead of 2025 Elections
Robert Kyagulanyi, the leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has urged young people to take an active role in leadership, particularly in the upcoming youth elections scheduled for January 20, 2025.
Addressing the media in Kampala on Monday, Kyagulanyi encouraged the youth to contest positions in both local government and legislative elections. He emphasized that true leadership is about prioritizing the needs of the people.
“As leaders, always remember that NUP is founded on the People Power movement. The interests of the people must remain at the center of everything we do,” Kyagulanyi stated, highlighting the importance of people-centered governance.
He reminded Ugandans that the struggle for liberation is a collective effort and stressed that every citizen has equal rights and responsibilities in shaping the nation’s future. Describing 2025 as a “revolutionary year,” he expressed optimism that the oppressed would seize the opportunity to break free from what he termed as the “dictatorship and authoritarian reign of the military.”
Kyagulanyi also addressed internal matters within NUP, disclosing that a legal case filed by his former deputy president aims to bar him from participating in politics for the next ten years. This legal dispute has caused delays in finalizing NUP’s party constitution.
In response to recent posts by the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) on his X account, where the CDF allegedly threatened to “behead” him, Kyagulanyi reassured the public that he remains unfazed. “When you have God by your side, no human being can intimidate you,” he said confidently.
Despite these challenges, Kyagulanyi reiterated his belief in a collective effort to achieve liberation and encouraged Ugandans, particularly the youth, to take an active role in shaping the country’s future through leadership and participation in the democratic process.
