Four Thieves Caught in Corn Field Robbery, Vehicle Torched.
In a dramatic incident in Lukesse Village, Mifunya Ward, Nakaseke District, a gang of thieves attempted to steal corn from a field, only to be caught and confronted by furious residents.
The robbery unfolded as the suspects were loading stolen corn onto a vehicle late at night. However, vigilant residents, who had suspected foul play, surrounded the thieves, apprehended them, and subjected them to mob justice. Armed with sticks, the crowd beat the four suspects before setting their getaway vehicle ablaze.
According to local accounts, the events were preceded by a suspicious encounter earlier that evening. Residents reported seeing a group of individuals negotiating with the farm owner for the corn but failing to agree on a price. This interaction raised suspicions that the same individuals might have returned under the cover of darkness to steal the produce.
Police arrived at the scene to find the suspects in a state of shock. They intervened to restore order and transported the injured individuals to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Authorities have condemned the act of mob justice, urging residents to report criminal activities to the police instead of taking matters into their own hands. Investigations are underway to identify the suspects and determine the full extent of the incident.
Meanwhile, the farm owner and local leaders have called for strengthened community vigilance and collaboration with law enforcement to prevent future incidents of theft in the area.
