Court Martial Sentences Man to 3yrs Imprisonment.

The General Court Martial headed by Brig, Gen. Robert Freeman Mugabe has sentenced Mendeieta Moses Duncan to three years imprisonment after pleading guilty of possessing defence stores contrary to sections 158 (1)&(2) (c) of the UPDF Act 330.
Dauncan a male adult aged 38years is a driver and resident of Kibizi village in Busunju Kikandwa sub county, Mityana District. He was on the 23rd September 2024 at Kiziba Village Kikandwa sub county in Mityana District found in unlawful possession of two pairs of one man’s tent, one pair of SFC operation uniform, one pair of plain green training uniform, an army blanket, three pairs of old fashion camouflage uniform, one piece of gun carrier among others which are gazetted defence stores.
The accused was presented to the general court martial in Makindye on 22nd November 2024 where an offence of unlawful possession of defence stores contrary to sections 158 (1)&(2) (c) of the UPDF Act 330 was read for him .Dauncan accepted the offence and facts presented to court true and correct and hence pleaded guilty to the offence.
Court convicted the accused on his plea of guilty. However Capt. Simon Busagwa counsel for the convict requested court on behalf of the convict for a linear sentence basing on the fact that the convict is remorseful, readily pleaded guilty and is a first offender. Busagwa further submitted that the convict has spent two months on remand, he is 38 years with children and dependents to look after and is suffering from hernia. Capt. Ambroz Guma counsel for the state did not object to the plea.
This court after listening to the submission of both counsel for the state and for the convict decided that the accused Mendeieta Moses Duncan be sentenced to three years, nine months and twenty seven (27) days imprisonment.
