President Museveni Appoints Godfrey Kiwanda to Head National Consultative Forum

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Godfrey Kiwanda Ssuubi, Deputy Chairman of the NRM, Buganda Region as the new head of the National Consultative Forum, succeeding Dr. Ruhankana Rugunda.

The announcement was made during the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Entebbe on October 31, 2024.

Kiwanda’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to ensure inclusivity among political parties.

Kiwanda expressed his commitment to ensuring that all parties benefit equally and that the forum will address issues affecting communities nationwide.

“I am ready to work with all political parties to foster unity and transparency for the benefit of all citizens,” he stated.

Kiwanda will be joined by a deputy from the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The National Consultative Forum, established by Uganda’s Constitution, plays a crucial role in supporting registered political parties by guiding leadership and overseeing the distribution of funds from the Electoral Commission to parties with parliamentary representation.

However, some opposition figures, such as Buikwe South MP Dr. Lulume Bayiga, questioned the forum’s relevance, arguing that the NRM, as the ruling party, operates with considerable autonomy.

Despite this criticism, the appointment signals a continued effort by the government to foster collaboration among political parties and to address public issues in a structured, consultative manner.
