Police Hunt Suspect For Killing Man After Arsenal-Liverpool Match

Police in Kabale have launched a search for a suspect, identified as Onan, who is accused of fatally assaulting a man following the Arsenal vs. Liverpool match on Sunday.

The victim, Benjamin Okello, reportedly sustained severe head injuries after being struck repeatedly with a stick outside a local cinema hall, known as a kibanda, in Kyobugambe, Kahalo subcounty.

The match itself was an intense showdown, with Arsenal taking an early lead. Bukayo Saka delivered a spectacular opening goal, his 50th Premier League score, slotting the ball past Liverpool’s defense in the ninth minute. Despite Arsenal’s early advantage, Liverpool’s relentless attacks began to wear down their opponents. Arsenal’s defense took a hit with injuries to key players Gabriel and Jurrien Timber in the second half, compounding the absence of suspended defender William Saliba. Liverpool seized the opportunity to equalize late in the game, thanks to a clinical strike by Mohamed Salah, securing a point and leaving Arsenal five points behind league leaders Manchester City.

District Police Commander (DPC) Joseph Bakeleke, revealed that the altercation began during the match, when Okello allegedly irritated Onan by throwing popcorn at him.

After Liverpool’s late equalizer, which ended the match in a draw, tensions escalated, and Onan allegedly pursued Okello, striking him on the head. Okello was rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to Kagalama Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police have now intensified patrols and stationed officers at local cinema halls, particularly in anticipation of tonight’s Arsenal vs. Preston match, where they hope the suspect might resurface.

The Kabale police have also called on any witnesses to come forward with information that could aid in the arrest of the suspect.
