Police Arrest Man Impersonating Army Officer in Alleged Extortion Scheme
Police at the Kampala Metropolitan East Headquarters on Jinja Road have arrested a man identified as Kakaire Yusuf on charges of impersonation.
The suspect is alleged to have posed as an army officer, using the names “Major Kakaire” and “Major Asiimwe,” while falsely claiming to work in the Office of the President.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP), Kakaire allegedly used his false identity to attempt extortion and theft from members of the public.
He notes that upon his arrest, officers reportedly found several suspected stolen items and multiple forged identification documents in his possession. He has called on members of the public who were duped by the suspect to report their matters to Jinja Road Police for further action.
“We urge anyone who may have interacted with this individual or been affected by his actions to come forward and contact our offices at Kampala Metropolitan East headquarters on Jinja Road,” Owoyesigyire stated.
The suspect is currently undergoing processing and is expected to face formal charges in court once the investigation is complete.
