Preparations for the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Tournament, also known as the ‘CDF Cup’, have gained momentum after the Resident City Commissioner’s (RCC) office in Fort Portal City offered to actively participate in its preparation.

The 16th edition of the annual UPDF event, hosted by the UPDF Mountain Division and organized by the UPDF Joint Staff in charge of Formal Education, Culture, and Sports (JS FESC), is scheduled to commence on September 17 at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal City. The two-week tournament will be launched by the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In preparation for the event, the RCC’s office paid a courtesy call to the UPDF Mountain Division Deputy Commander, Col Paul Muwonge, and offered to mobilize the local community and provide any necessary assistance.

Deputy RCC Fort Portal City, Mr. Emanuel Businge, led the delegation and emphasized the economic opportunities the tournament presents to the people of Fort Portal and surrounding districts.

Col Muwonge thanked the RCC’s office for their support, stating, “We are thankful for your input. We have the same interests and serve one nation.”

The UPDF tournament has attracted 20 teams from various UPDF formations and units, competing in football, netball, and shooting. The event is expected to draw in crowds from the entire Rwenzori region, with free entrance to the venue.

Mr. Businge was accompanied by the Deputy RCC in charge of North Division, Mr. Moses Ariho, and the Assistant RCC Fort Portal, Mr. Robert Bwarare.
