NRM SG Todwong Advises University Students to Prioritize Academics

The NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong, has urged university students to make the most of their time and opportunities to ease their transition into public service.

While officiating at the NRM Makerere Chapter handover ceremony at Makerere University, Todwong noted that students often face obstacles in achieving their goals due to the freedoms they experience during their time at university.

“Do not let the freedoms that come with university life distract you. With this freedom, there is a risk of failing to complete your studies,” Todwong said, encouraging the students to prioritize their academics and take advantage of self-improvement opportunities, such as mentorship programs and ideological retreats.

He also advised the NRM youth leaders to seek guidance from senior leaders, emphasizing the importance of being groomed into responsible future leaders.

“I implore you to always seek advice and mentorship from senior leaders if you are to grow into responsible leaders in the future,” Todwong emphasized.

He further encouraged the students to draw inspiration from President Yoweri Museveni, particularly in how he manages the country’s affairs.

Like President Museveni, Todwong advised young people to approach politics and leadership with honesty and patience to avoid making mistakes.

The Secretary General also praised the outgoing chapter leadership for its organization and efforts in mobilizing students to support the development of the NRM party.

“The secretariat will continue to support your activities in recruiting more students into the ruling party,” Todwong assured them.

Outgoing NRM Chapter Chairman, Robert Ankunda, expressed his gratitude to the secretariat for consistently empowering students affiliated with the ruling party.

“You have always been there for us, and I believe the support you have shown will be extended to the incoming leadership,” Ankunda remarked.

The ceremony was also attended by notable leaders, including the Director of External Affairs, Counsel Awich Pollar, Kampala Central Mayor, Salim Uhuru, and Makerere University NRM Patron, Dr. Eria Hisali.
