Exploit the Peace to Develop Agago District – Gen Odongo Tells Locals

Yesterday 1st January 2019 Uganda’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen Jeje Odongo, urged residents of Agago district not to spend so much time in politics but rather exploit the peace provided by UPDF and NRM regime to improve their welfare.

He said this at Agago district headquarters as he presided over the district launch of the 38th Tarehe Sita Anniversary celebrations in Agago district.

The Internal Affairs Minister remarked that since UPDF is a pro-people army, it, therefore, means that it has to associate with the people in all its missions; just like it is going to do by renovating some selected schools in Agago and participate in other minor static and mobile medical outreaches.

He advised that responsible stakeholders will take the initiative and amicably iron-out all cross border conflicts between Uganda and South Sudan
Gen Odongo mentioned that the current global environment demands a complete change in attitude at all levels for people to develop themselves. He explained that beekeeping in Agago district is more profitable than rearing animals. “Honey and its products are of high value both locally and internationally than cattle rearing depending on circumstances,” said Gen Odongo as he addressed district leaders, religious leaders and residents of Agago district.

On the issue of the Karamajong cattle rustlers crossing to Agago to feed their animals; or at times steal cattle, Gen Odongo promised to engage the Government further so that security in prone areas is reinforced.

He also advised the Karamajong to practice other methods of modern farming other than rearing cattle. Gen Odongo thanked the people of Agago for enduring the difficult time of insurgency, noting that by choosing not to vacate their land during the LRA era is a sign of patriotism and love for the prominence of peace, democracy and development throughout Uganda.

The district Tarehe Sita Launch was attended by the Agago District local leaders, UPDF Maj General Nakibus Lakara and the 3Division Commander Brig Richard Otto among others
