Ex-NFL Star Kiwanuka Meets CDF Gen Kainerugaba
To Promote American Football in Uganda
In a bid to introduce American football to Uganda, Mathias Kiwanuka, the grandson of Uganda’s first prime minister, Benedicto Kiwanuka, met with the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Monday.
Kiwanuka, 43, a former defensive end in the National Football League (NFL), has returned to his ancestral home with the ambitious goal of popularizing the sport in Uganda.
The decorated athlete, who clinched two Super Bowl championships with the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI, is eager to share his knowledge and passion for the game.
The meeting, which was facilitated by Mr Kwame Ruyondo, provided a platform for Kiwanuka to discuss his plans with Gen Kainerugaba.
As a senior presidential advisor on Special Operations, Gen Kainerugaba expressed keen interest in Kiwanuka’s initiative and pledged his full support to see the sport take root in the country.
This collaboration between a Ugandan-American sports legend and a top military figure could be the key to unlocking a new chapter in Uganda’s sports landscape. With Gen Kainerugaba’s backing, Kiwanuka’s vision of bringing American football to Uganda may soon become a reality.
