Uganda Uganda expects first oil production in 2021

Uganda expects to start producing oil by 2021 according to the Permanent Secretary of Energy and Mineral Development, Robert Kasande.

This was during a workshop happening now at Serena hotel.

France’s Total is an investor in Uganda’s oilfields, with China’s CNOOC and Britain’s Tullow Oil .

The initial target to produce the first oil was 2020 but that slipped and government is now looking now at 2021.

Uganda discovered crude reserves more than 10 years ago but the start of production has been repeatedly delayed by disagreements with field operators over taxes and development strategy.

The new timeline 

  • Conclusion of land acquisition – Feb 2019
  • Conclusion of various agreements – May 2019
  • Final Investment Decision – June 2019
  • Engineering Procurement & Construction – July 2019
  • First Oil – 2021
