Police Detain Three in Connection with Killing Driver in Mob Attack

The Mwende District Police are currently holding three individuals in connection with the violent mob killing of Mida, a 29-year-old driver, which occurred in the early hours of August 27, 2024.

The incident took place in Kayana village, Naluwondwa Parish, within the Madudu sub-county.

Racheal Kawala, the Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson, reported that Mida had traveled to Kayana village with some friends to collect banana leaves intended for transport to Kampala. Upon their arrival around 3:00 a.m., Mida’s friends opted to check into a nearby lodge while he chose to stay in their vehicle, registered as UBB 330Q, to protect it from potential theft.

A short while later, Mida’s friends were alerted by a disturbance outside. Rushing out, they found a horrifying scene: Mida was being attacked by a mob, and their vehicle was engulfed in flames. Tragically, Mida’s body was later discovered burnt in front of the scorched vehicle.

The three suspects are being held at Mwende Police Station and are assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Police have strongly condemned the act of mob justice, stressing that such actions not only violate the law but also put innocent lives at risk. The public is urged to avoid taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue to uncover the motive behind this heinous act.
