The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has successfully captured a giant crocodile that had been a persistent threat to fishermen at Kacwankumu landing site on Lake Albert.

The capture operation, led by Onenchan John and the Problem Animal Capture Team, began on the evening of August 1, 2024, with traps laid in the water. By the afternoon of August 2, the crocodile was successfully apprehended.

This massive crocodile, measuring 4.5 meters and weighing 500 kilograms, had been a significant menace to the local community. Over the past 45 years, it was reported to have attacked two people, killed one, and severely injured four others between January 2023 and July 2024. The presence of the crocodile had left the villagers in a state of constant fear.

UWA, in an official statement revealed that following its capture, the crocodile was relocated to a more suitable environment far from human habitation, where it can continue to live undisturbed. The relocation aims to restore safety and peace to the local community.

UWA has advised the locals to remain vigilant, as other crocodiles may still be present in the waters.
