UBOS to Conduct Post-Enumeration Survey in August

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is set to conduct the Post-Enumeration Survey (PES) in August to validate the quality of the 2024 Uganda Census results in terms of coverage and content. This exercise will be carried out across all 135 districts and 11 cities in Uganda.

Addressing the media at Statistics House the Executive Director of UBOS, Dr. Chris Mukiza, announced that the bureau has already selected a team of independent and specialized personnel. These personnel are currently undergoing training at the national level, drawn from the 15 statistical sub-regions, to effectively carry out the survey.

Dr. Mukiza stated that the exercise will cost UGX 3.9 billion and aims to survey all individuals who spent the previous night in the household of the enumeration area. He also mentioned that the Uganda People’s Defence Force, Uganda Police, Prisons, educational institutions, religious institutions, and refugee camps will not be enumerated.

“Here we shall not go deep; we shall not ask very many other questions like how it was in the main census. Just the household and their characteristics, education level, sex, and employment will be asked,” Mukiza said. “They will just have to remember who stayed at their respective households the previous night; after that work has been done, the data will be brought back to headquarters for matching,” he added.

Furthermore, Dr. Mukiza revealed that the Uganda Census 2024 was 99% funded by the Government of Uganda, amounting to UGX 328.74 billion, with the remaining 1% funded by development partners including UNHCR Uganda and UNDP Uganda.
