Air Force Rescues Agago and Kitgum Residents from Stray Elephants
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Air Force (UPDAF) deployed a helicopter to chase away an unprecedented number of over 130 stray elephants that had invaded Kitgum and Agago districts in northern Uganda.
The elephants, which originated from Kidepo National Park, caused significant damage to local gardens and posed a threat to the community.
The successful operation was conducted on Monday and Tuesday.
The population was extremely grateful for the military’s intervention, as the large number of elephants had the potential to displace people from their homes.
This was the largest elephant invasion in the area’s recorded history, catching residents off guard and highlighting the urgent need for effective human-wildlife conflict management.
This is not the first time that residents in Kitgum and Agago have faced threats from wildlife.
